Make your battery last and charge safely

A few simple settings help your battery last through the day, and a few habits keep charging safe.

See exactly how much battery is left

Open Settings, then tap Battery.
Turn on Battery Percentage. The number now shows in the battery symbol at the top of your screen.

Running low? Turn on Low Power Mode

Low Power Mode makes your battery last longer by cutting back on extras. Calls, texts, email, and the internet still work.

Open Settings, then tap Battery.
On iPhone 15 or newer, tap Power Mode, then tap Low Power Mode. On iPhone 14 or older, tap Low Power Mode right there.

Low Power Mode turns itself off once your iPhone charges to 80% or more. Some tasks may run a little slower while it's on.

Help your battery last for years

Turn on Optimized Battery Charging. Your iPhone learns when you usually unplug it, and waits to finish charging until just before then.

Open Settings, then tap Battery.
On iPhone 15 or newer, tap Charging. On iPhone 14 or older, tap Battery Health & Charging.
Turn on Optimized Battery Charging.

Charging a little at a time during the day is fine. Apple says it won't harm the battery.

Charge safely

Use the cable that came with your iPhone, or a cable and adapter labeled as meeting safety standards. Apple warns that some adapters may not meet safety standards.
Don't use a cable or charger that's frayed, cracked, or damaged.
If the charging port might be wet, don't plug anything in.
Charge in an open spot with air around it, not under a pillow or blanket. Don't sleep on the charging cable.
Using a charging pad? Take off metal cases, and keep keys and coins off the pad.

If your battery is completely empty, your iPhone may need to charge for up to 10 minutes before you can use it.
