Join a Zoom call from a link on your iPhone

Family gatherings, church groups, classes, and some doctor visits happen on Zoom. If someone sent you a Zoom link, here's how to join from your iPhone.

First time? Get the Zoom app

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap Search and type Zoom.
  3. Find the Zoom app. It's called Zoom Workplace. Check that the developer name under it is Zoom.
  4. Tap Get. The app is free to download. Confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode if asked.

Be wary of look-alike apps. See Find and install an app safely.

Join the meeting

  1. At meeting time, open the email or text with the invitation.
  2. Tap the Zoom link. If your iPhone asks, tap Open to open it in the Zoom app.
  3. If Zoom asks for your name, type it, so the host knows who you are.
  4. If Zoom asks for a meeting passcode, type the one in your invitation.
  5. Your iPhone may ask to let Zoom use the camera and microphone. Tap OK or Allow.
  6. Tap Join with Video to be seen, or Join without Video.
  7. If the host uses a waiting room, wait a moment. They'll let you in.

Make sure you can hear

If you can't hear anyone, tap Join Audio at the bottom of the screen. Then choose the option to use your internet connection. It may say Wi-Fi or Cellular Data or Call using Internet Audio.

During the meeting

Good to know

  • You usually don't need to make a Zoom account to join a meeting someone invited you to.
  • Use Wi-Fi if you can, and plug in your charger for long meetings.
  • Prop your iPhone up so your hands are free and your face is in view.
  • The Zoom app's buttons can change when it updates. If yours look different, look for the words Join, Audio, and Video.
